I’m working through a Learning 2.0 program my library system started last week. The 7 1/2 habits of lifelong learners was the first thing covered. The biggest challenge for me on the list is probably
Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage.
Obviously I’m not that big a technophobe if I’m blogging. But it does make you feel a little creeky when you don’t know how to use half the functions on your cell phone, printer/scanner/copier, video camera, etc. not to mention RSS feeds and the like.
My best excuse is a lack of time at work, and many other things I’d rather do after work than stare at a computer. But it’s probably time to get some of these monkeys off my back.
The habit that is easiest for me, I guess, is
Habit 4: Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner.
because there are plenty of other things I’ve learned while technology has been on the back burner.
Confidence in yourself gives you a major head start in learning anything, not just technology. Does anyone under 25 know all the features of their cell phone, etc.? I hope I’m around long enough to laugh at the same 25-year-olds when they have kids that know more than they do. And you know that’s going to happen.
